Gabon willing to further boost its relations with Algeria

Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie, Regional Integration and Gabonese Abroad Pacome Moubelet Boubeya, expressed Tuesday in Algiers his country’s willingness to further strengthen its relations with Algeria.

“I come to Algeria to express the willingness of Gabon’s President Ali Bongo Ondimba to further boost relations with Algeria and to convey to the Algerian Head of State the wish of President Ali Bongo to pay him a visit,” he said following his discussions with Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.

The Gabonese minister added that he discussed with his Algerian counterpart issues of common interest.

For his part, Lamamra said that the discussions aim at strengthening relations between the two countries, at all levels, particularly in the economic field, by working for the holding of a meeting of the joint economic cooperation committee, which has not met since 30 years.

“We are working to ensure the success of the Gabonese president’s state visit to Algeria,” stated Lamamra, adding that the Gabonese minister’s visit reflects the willingness of both countries to strengthen friendship and cooperation ties.

Lamamra said Moubelet Boubeya would convey a message from the Gabonese president to his Algerian counterpart during an audience with Premier Abdelmalek Sellal.

“This momentum also reflects promising prospects for both countries and we will work to bridge our viewpoints on several issues related to political dialogue and consultations between Algeria and Gabon with a view to providing cooperation and complementarity framework to our economic relations,” stressed Lamamra.
