Why did Obama extend US national emergency on Iran?

Barack Obama extended the US national emergency with respect to Iran, which was originally announced after the hostage crisis in November 1979 in Tehran, and said the relation was from returning to normal as the Iranian diplomats always made threats to the US.

Obama made hard efforts to reach the historic Iran nuclear deal with P5+1 powers last year. According to the deal, Iran agreed to amend its nuclear output in order to lift all nuclear-related economic sanctions, freeing up tens of billions of dollars in oil revenue and frozen assets.

Iranian economy was the biggest winner from the deal and Tehran made huge contracts and new agreements after lifting the sanctions, but this didn’t lead the Iranian hardliners to change their policy towards the west.

“Our relations with Iran have not yet returned to normal, and the process of implementing the agreements with Iran, dated Jan. 19, 1981, is still under way,” Obama wrote in the letter.

“For this reason, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency … with respect to Iran.”

“The national emergency with respect to Iran that was declared in Executive Order 12170 of November 14, 1979, is to continue in effect beyond November 14, 2016,” he wrote.

Obama’s administration pushed for diplomacy to end any possible threats to the US and its allies emanating from Iran’s development of its nuclear capabilities.

The US leader was behind the historic Iran nuclear deal with P5+1 powers, agreed upon last year, which saw Tehran agree to amend its nuclear output in order to lift all nuclear-related economic sanctions, freeing up tens of billions of dollars in oil revenue and frozen assets.

Iran-US tension

Even as nuclear negotiations were ongoing and Obama considered military action against Syria in 2013 for using chemical weapons, Iran brazenly threatened brutal attacks against Americans and even Obama’s family if he did so. Since the 2015 nuclear agreement was reached, the number of U.S. naval confrontations with Iran have doubled, accompanied with threats to shoot down U.S. spy planes in international airspace. Undeterred by international law, Iran most recently boasted its enemies are not safe “as the revolutionary forces will chase them and kill them anywhere in the world.”

General Massoud Jazayeri, deputy commander of Iran’s Armed Forces, said: “The bloody wars of Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, the continued occupation of Zionists in Palestine, the war of the Ba’ath regime of Saddam against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the conflicts in Lebanon, Bahrain, and other events and incidents where each one thousands of dead and maimed and brought about endless destruction, are only part of the behaviour of the satanic governing body of America in the region.

“The presence of America in the region is a cancerous malign tumour that can only be treated by removing the filthy tumour and the ejection of America from the region,” Jazayeri added.

According to Iranian state media, Khamenei also dismissed negotiations with the United States, saying such talks “will not resolve our problems.” He added, “We should resolve the problems ourselves and with reliance on our capabilities and the young forces inside the country.”

“The nuclear deal, as an experience, once again proved the pointlessness of negotiating with the Americans, their bad promises and the need not to trust America’s promises,”he has previously said.

Washington’s main goal is to hinder the Iranian nation’s progress, according to Khamenei, adding that the US has never stopped its hostilities towards Tehran.

“How would a government, which has never stopped its hostilities towards the Iranian nation even for a single second, solve the country’s issues,” asked Khamenei.

The Iranian regime plays the trick well, as the politicians make agreements, that benefits Iran, with the west while the hardliners address the public saying that despite these agreements the west is still the devil we mustn’t trust. Thus, they achieve their goals economically and politically without loosing the grip on the Iranian people’s minds.
