
Turkish Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar was rescued from pro-coup soldiers Saturday during an operation at an air base in Ankara, according to Anadolu Agency.
Gen. Akar, who had been held hostage during a coup attempt launched Friday night, was escorted to a safe place after a group of soldiers recovered him from the air force base in the north of the capital.
Sources who requested anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to press said the pro-coup soldiers at the site had begun to flee.
Meanwhile, special operations police captured the Gendarmerie General Command and neutralized pro-coup soldiers.
