Israeli forces clash with settlers as evacuation of Amona outpost begins

Clashes have erupted between Israeli settlers and Israeli forces at the illegal Amona outpost in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, as Israeli police forces began evacuating the settler residents in line with an order from the Israeli high Court.

Israeli daily Haaretz reported around 11am that hundreds of Israeli youth stormed into the area to protest the evacuation, throwing stones at Israeli police forces as the authorities made a push forward into the outpost.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said in a statement around 11:30am that Israeli police forces had been deployed at the illegal outpost since early Wednesday morning “in preparation for the direct evacuation.”

According to al-Samri, the police had communicated with with resident settlers and their leaderships “in order to push efforts of voluntary evacuation in accordance to what they had pledged in front of the High Court of Justice.”
Al-Samri emphasized that the police would continue to and as the “put in efforts for a peaceful evacuation away from using any violence but it depends on the behavior of the other party and them keeping away from using any violence against Israeli forces and police.”
