Palestinian shot by Israeli police after alleged attack

A Palestinian was shot and injured in Jerusalem on Monday morning after allegedly attacking two Israeli police officers with a knife, according to Israeli police sources, reported Anadolu Agency.

One police officer was seriously injured in the alleged knife attack — which occurred near the Old City of Jerusalem’s Herod’s Gate — while a second was slightly hurt, Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said in a statement.

The area has since been cordoned off and extra police forces deployed in the area, Rosenfeld tweeted.

Monday’s incident was the sixth alleged Palestinian attack since Friday, when three Palestinians and a Jordanian national were killed while allegedly attempting to attack Israeli targets in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces — either during alleged attacks on Israelis or in clashes with Israeli forces — since October of last year.

Over the same period, at least 35 Israelis have been killed in the violence.

The latest alleged attacks represent a renewal of violence after a months-long wave of Israeli-Palestinian bloodletting appeared to subside in March.
